Goon Green
Goon Green is a composer, cellist, bassist, DJ, engineer, radio host, model, organizer, and tall person currently based in South Florida. He has been involved in radio for a while, from the early days in North New Jersey at WJSV 90.5fm, to the college years at WVUM 90.5fm (coincidence, he thinks not!), to WDNA 88.9fm here in Miami, and most recently MCR. He connects deeply with the philosophy of community radio and has put a lot of intentionality into upholding those values. He believes the process of sharing music and cultural knowledge should not be controlled solely by algorithms. The human element holds profound meaning.
He hosts The Pocket, a program which explores music, culture, innovation, tradition, and all of their intersections. The guiding light of his sonic curation is connective eclecticism. Sound segmentation is the Achilles heel of the music industry, so he works to deconstruct those limitations and open listeners to new auditory conceptions. He seeks to delve below the surface level during interviews, asking questions that few else would in an attempt to facilitate substance and meaning through creatively informed conversation.
He is in the process of refining several recording projects, with concepts ranging from experimental fourth stream to experimental electronic to experimental folk. He plays in a trio situation that explores prog / fusion sounds, as well as a duo situation that focuses on purely extemporaneous creation. He has also been investing his time and energy into underground electronic dance culture quite a bit as of late, having found a community that considers atypicality a virtue. His art is a reflection of his life, and vice versa.
